IT Vision
A Dynamic Community of Enthused learner Leading Innovations in IT for teaching and learning.
IT Goals
- Staff Development and Teacher Use in IT - To empower teachers to lead in designing and integrating IT effectively into teaching & learning.
- Student Use in IT - To empower pupils with IT skills and build a climate that encourages creativity, communication, collaboration and independent learning.
IT Infrastructure
- Four fully networked Computer Laboratories with 40 PCs and printers.
- One computer lab is equipped with Digital Video Cameras and Video Editing Stations, Adobe Photoshop for graphics editing as well as Macromedia Suites for Graphic Animation and Web Publishing. A full-time IT trainer is engaged to train and assist students and staff in using these facilities.
- All classrooms and special rooms (i.e. science laboratories, cookery rooms etc) are equipped with a PC (with Internet access), Visualiser and LCD Projector for teachers and students to engage in IT lessons.
- A 2-Storey Media Resource Library (MRL) has 30 PCs for student’s free access after school hours. Students and staff can also search for school library books online using the JYSS OPAC portal as well as to check the status of their loan record. The MRL is managed by a full-time librarian.
School Wide IT Programmes for Teaching and Learning
1. iConneXion – Learning Management System (LMS)
- All staff and students are given account to log into the school’s LMS to engage themselves in an online community learning environment. Teachers create E-lessons using multimedia resources (i.e. slides, documents, sound, video, animation and webpages etc) for student self-paced and independent learning.
- Students actively participate in school forums and polls to voice their opinions and views which are managed by the Student Council.
- CCA groups constantly promote their activities by posting them onto the LMS to update members of their latest development.
- Teachers periodically use the LMS to obtain feedback from students to improve their teaching and learning in class.
2. Interdisciplinary Project Work using IT
- A compulsory 1 Semester Interdisciplinary Project Work using IT Programme is conducted for all Sec 1 and 2 students within curriculum hours.
- Students at each level are taught IT skills and knowledge that they would need to apply and incorporate into the Project Work.

Using IT for Administrative Excellence
iLink – Administration Portal
All our student’s academic performances (from P6 to GCE ‘O’ & ‘N’ level) are tracked closely through using iLink. All parents are also given an account log into the system to monitor their child’s progress.
Participation in IT related competitions
Students in the IT Club ( a CCA under the umbrella of the Media Club) learn, apply and display their knowledge and skills in the area of Information Technology. They are trained by the residential trainer on the various IT skills (particularly in the area of Flash Animation) and they participate in the competitions to gain experience, exposure and excellence. Competitions participated include:

- National PowerPoint Competition for Secondary Schools
- 21st National Software Competition (IT Quiz)

To further expand the role of IT Club and also to excite pupils about the possibilities of infocomm in a fun way, school plans to partner and collaborate with infocomm industry as well as Institute of Higher Learning to set up the Infocomm Club in 2007.
The Infocomm Club aims to train students in specialised infocomm skills (software and applications), to cultivate leadership capabilities among students through Project Work as well as to create opportunities for students to showcase their talents.
