    Dear Junyuan Champs

    2010 PARTNERS AWARD - MERIT

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Junyuan has clinched the Merit Award in the 2010 PARTNERS Award Validation Exercise held early this year. This Award is testimony of our belief that the holistic development of every Junyuan Champ is not the work of the teaching staff alone but also the strong partnership that exists between the school and its key stakeholders – Parents, School Advisory Committee, Alumni and external agencies.

My deepest appreciation to Mr Ling Khoon Chow, former VP, Mr Ang Keng Kiat, HOD/CCA & Chairman of Partnership Special Committee 2009, and teachers in this special committee for their contribution towards the planning and implementing the school's partnership framework.

I am also very grateful to the various individuals who have helped in availing themselves for the interviews during the validation exercise. I value their ardent support and strong partnership with the school.

    Dear Parents and Stakeholders,

Medical Certificates Required for Absence from School

In order to justify for your child’s absence from school, you are reminded that the school only accepts official medical certificates endorsed by a certified doctor practising at a Singapore clinic or hospital.

For urgent cases such as a death of a next-of-kin or any other official reasons (supported by an official letter) the school may consider to grant compassionate leave to our student on a case-by-case basis. However, such leave grants may take effect only if the student gives prior notice to their Form Teacher and seek prior approval from the school via an email to junyuan_ss@moe.edu.sg. The student has to produce the official certificate immediately upon return to support the approval of such absence. Late submission of such certificates will not be entertained.

All other forms of letters from parents/guardians (especially those written by students themselves) will not be accepted.

We seek your co-operation on this important matter as we strive to instill in our students the core values of Integrity, Responsibility and Respect.

    Regards,

    Principal

    Dear Junyuan Champs

LEE KUAN YEW AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING NORMAL COURSE STUDENTS

We congratulate and rejoice with Daryn Joshua Henson (4N2) for having been awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Award for Outstanding Normal Stream Students (Normal Technical Category) this year. We are indeed very proud of Darren.

I am truly grateful for the unfailing support from Daryn’s parents, and my sincere thanks to all the teachers who had taught Daryn. Special thanks to Mrs Sharon Tan, Head of Level Sec 4/5 (2009) for contributing a very detailed write-up on Daryn to support his application for this Award.

Because of his outstanding results, Daryn was accepted to pursue a Higher Nitec course at ITE this year, a course offered only to NA or Express students. This is the first time ITE accepted an NT student for such a course. Having completed the 10 week preparatory programme at ITE early this year, Darren realised that the ITE route is not suitable for him. In March, he requested to return to Junyuan to complete the GCE N(A) exam in 2010 and on to GCE 'O' level exam in 2011.

Below is an excerpt of Daryn's personal statement which he submitted to apply for the Award.

When I was in Primary 5, I had a medical condition that literally crippled my life. I could not attend school for almost two months. My family was there for me the whole time. They encouraged me to exercise more and never to give up. Once I was strong enough to overcome this obstacle, I got back to school. I barely managed to get through the End-Of-Year Examinations. I ended up in the Primary 6 EM3 stream and scored 98 for my PSLE. I was very disappointed. With such an aggregate, I was accepted into the Normal

Technical course at Junyuan Secondary School.

Ever since then, I made a promise to myself that I would prove to everyone that a Normal Technical student can also achieve academic excellence. In Secondary 2, I was given the opportunity to take up Mathematics at a higher level. In Secondary 3, I topped the cohort and was the top scorer in all the Normal Technical stream subjects, except the Malay language.

In Secondary 4, the Principal and teachers of the school recognised my potential and gave me a challenge to take up English Language at a higher level. Even though it was just two months to the GCE N level exams, I willingly accepted the challenge and by the grace of God, I became the top GCE N(T) student in the school in 2009. I also achieved Grade 3 for English (Syllabus A) as well as Grade 1 for Mathematics (Syllabus A).

Through this experience, I understand now that failure is NOT my

    Undertaker. It is my Teacher.

I believe all Junyuan Champs also have this ‘Can Do’ attitude and can excel as well.

    All the Best!

    Warmest regards

    Mrs Janet Oh

    Dear Parents and Students,

Access To Teachers During Lesson Hours

At Junyuan Secondary School, we encourage parents to participate and partner with our teaching staff in the holistic education of our students. Teachers and parents often meet and communicate with each other on platforms such as scheduled Meet-The-Parents sessions, email, phone calls etc.

However, when the school is in session, we often have parents showing up personally requesting for personal meetings with teachers without an appointment . We also have parents calling in expecting to speak immediately with the teachers during lesson hours . By acceding to such requests, the teacher must interrupt his/her lessons and cannot be effective in fulfilling his/her duties and responsibilities.

We hope to seek the co-operation of all parents to use the email platform (http://junyuansec.net/about%20us/orgchart.html) and make an appointment with the teacher before any personal meeting. Parents may also call in to the General Office to leave a request with our Support Officers and Teacher Assistants so that they can inform our teachers about your request to return your call as soon as he/she is available.

In this way, our teachers can be more efficient and effective in giving the best attention to our students during the prime lesson hours.

    Regards,

    Mrs Janet Oh
